The weekend had started positively. In Friday testing, Holly steadily improved her pace and continued to gain confidence around the demanding Donington GP layout.
Qualifying, however, proved to be one of the most dramatic sessions of the season. During the 15-minute session, Holly completed nine laps, but every single one was later deleted for track-limits infringements.
Donington’s strict track-limits enforcement caught out almost the entire field. Twenty-five of the 26 drivers lost at least one lap, and ten drivers – including Holly – had every lap deleted and were left without a representative qualifying time.
With no legal lap remaining, she was classified with no valid time and faced the prospect of starting from the back of the grid.
Race 1
Starting in P26, Holly had all to gain in the first race of the weekend. With battles in the front and five DNFs, she held her own, moving up eight places throughout the race and ending in P18.
Race 2
Race 2 was started in P23 and again Holly remained focussed on keeping steady and maximising pace, while the chaos ensued on the grid in front of her. In a variety of accidents, nine drivers ended on a DNF and Holly showcased her experience by keeping composed and ending the race in P17.
Race 3
Holly also started in P26 in Race 3 where the mission was again to keep steady and push through until the end. With another few incidents causing eight DNFs, she held on finishing in P17.
A difficult weekend focussing on recovering from the challenges of qualifying but another set of experiences to build on.
The next round of the GB4 Championship takes place August 1st at Silverstone.
