BKC Round 4 – Larkhall

15 July 2019

Saturday – Testing

Having only been to Larkhall once before, Saturday testing was important so I could re-learn the track, especially as the track had now been extended since my last visit. Overall we had a good day in the sunshine and were successfully building our speed ready for race day. Jenson Butterfield was there to help with my racing lines.

Sunday – Race Day

FP1

Morning practice gave us the opportunity to put our tyres through a heat cycle ready for qualifying.

Qualifying

We got on track mid-pack, we passed a couple of karts which left a clear track in front and pushed to catch the karts further up to give us a tow up the straight. Unfortunately, they were too far in front and we couldn’t catch them. However, we qualified in 6th place which would give us good opportunities for heat 1.

Heat 1

We got a good start and after some close racing we managed to finish in 5th.

Pre-Final

After another solid start we had a couple of battles back and forth and finally finished where we started in 5th.

FINAL

Starting in 5th we were in a good position to go with the front runners. On the first lap there was some hustling for the lead and we picked up the pieces and were up to 2nd before the end of the first lap. Fantastic! We held 2nd for the next 9 laps battling hard with the leader and even setting some quicker lap times until a racing incident knocked us back to 4th where we finished. However, due to an unfortunate dropped nose penalty we were dropped to 7th.

All in all it was a very positive weekend and Holly proved that she could be in the mix with the leaders, we will come back stronger for the round and hopefully get a better result.

Onto round 5 now at Rissington, another track Holly has not yet driven, so our Saturday practice will be important.
