BKC Round 8 – Wombwell Final Round

23 October 2019

Saturday – Testing

Having never been to Wombwell, Saturday testing was important so I could learn the track, especially as the track runs anti-clockwise, which is unusual! After a track walk with my coach for the weekend (Jenson Butterfield) I got the feel for the circuit. Overall, we had a good first day in the sunshine and were building our speed ready for race day.

Sunday – Race Day

FP1

The rain came down and all our previous dry practice was worthless. I went out for our 3 lap practice and tried as best I could to find where the grip was in the wet.

Qualifying

We got on track towards the back of the pack, and passed a couple of karts which gave us the chance to push on. However, we only managed to qualify 8th – albeit there was less than a second splitting the top 10. So, perhaps not such a bad result considering the conditions.

Heat 1

We got a reasonable start but lost out in the first corner and dropped to 10th where we stayed for the remainder of the race.

Pre-Final

We got a solid start but after a first corner incident with nowhere to go were on the grass to avoid a crash. We did subsequently find some pace though and managed to fight our way back up to 6th however, we ended up dropping back to 8th where we finished.

The Final

Starting in 8th we were already on the back foot. On the first lap we made up one place and pushed hard to stay with lead pack making it up to 5th by mid-race and then battling for 4th for the last 7 laps. Unfortunately, we only managed to finish 5th which put us 5th overall in the Championship.

All in all another positive weekend.

Holly has really enjoyed her first championship season and is happy with the result, now onwards and upwards to the Rotax Minimax for next season.
